I have a confession to make: I’m not a runner. I haven’t trained, and I definitely don’t own fancy running shoes. But this week, I joined Vårruset in Stockholm, and I’m so glad I did, even though I twisted my ankle just before the start!
Vårruset is a women’s running event held in springtime in cities all over Sweden. In Stockholm, it takes place in the beautiful Djurgården.

Now, before you picture a super sporty, high-pressure race, don’t worry! Vårruset is not about competing. It’s all about community, good vibes, and supporting a good cause.
This year, proceeds go to Tjejzonen, Sweden’s largest support organization for young women, which focus on strengthening their health and autonomy. Learn more about this great cause https://tjejzonen.se.
You can run, jog, or just walk the 2,5 or 5 kilometers with your friends. That’s exactly what we did! My friends and I signed up mostly for fun. We walked almost the whole thing, chatted the entire way, and finished with the picnic included in the registration.

People were cheering each other on, some were dressed up in fun outfits, and the atmosphere was super relaxed. There were 15000 women, everybody was having fun, there was music and lots of laughter. It felt more like a celebration than a run.

Tips if you want to join next year:
- You don’t need to train (but bring comfy shoes!)
- You can go solo or register as a group (perfect girls’ night out)
- The picnic at the end is part of the fun, don’t skip it!
- Sign up early, it’s cheaper and places fill fast!

If you’re new in Sweden or just looking for something social to do this spring, I totally recommend it, even if you’ve never run a day in your life. It’s a great way to get outside, feel part of a bigger community, and support a great cause.
